"RIP ASIA MARKET, LONG LIVE ASIA CAFE" TEE
RIP ASIA MARKET
When my parents first moved to Austin in the 90s, it was rough trying to find Asian groceries. Then Asia Market opened, and it instantly became a staple in the Asian community as well as my mom’s weekly routine. But they couldn’t keep up after H-Mart and 99 Ranch came to town in 2018, and when I dropped by earlier this year I saw a new business had taken over the space.
LONG LIVE ASIA CAFE
At some point the owners of Asia Market decided to open a cafeteria in the back, and it was so poppin that they turned it into an actual restaurant next door called Asia Cafe. I had countless family dinners there, and it’s where the Asian kids in my grade had a last supper before everyone left for college. Still open 7 days a week.
